20130225-093040.jpgWhew! I have been a reading machine since I got to Marco Island! Since I am technically unemployed for the remainder of the week before I start my new job, you can expect a few more book reviews.

The other day, I started and finished Jodie Sweetin’s memoir, Unsweetined. Jodie Sweetin is an American actress known for playing Stephanie Tanner on one of my personal favorite “feel good” shows, Full House. I had heard through tabloids back in the early 2000′s that Jodie Sweetin was a meth addict, but I didn’t realize the extent of her drug and alcohol addiction until I read her memoir.

Sure, it was a little cliche. That sweet innocent girl from Full House has an identity crisis that leads her down the path of drugs and alcohol, but regardless, I found myself glued to the book. For me, it wasn’t the drugs and partying that was so shocking. (Although, I had no idea Jodie Sweetin was a regular in the LA club scene in the early 2000′s around the time Lindsay Lohan wasn’t trying so hard to cover her love of cocaine and Britney Spears wasn’t trying so hard to cover her foo-foo when she got out of limos.) The shocking part of the book for me was all of the lies she told and got away with for a long time.

Jodie Sweetin was one hell of a liar. I don’t know how she manages to hide her drug addiction and partying from her own husband for two years. This is the man who lived under the same roof as her, who was supposed to know her better than anyone… But he had no idea when she snuck into bed next to him that she was coming down from a combination of booze, cocaine, ecstasy and, of course, meth.

Jodie Sweetin didn’t just fool her husband into thinking she was sober. She fooled the public too. She admits to various occasions where she was supposed to be “in recovery” yet she was high as a kite making public appearances. This included when she spoke at Marquette University about her recovery… She had just gotten off a 2 day bender and had to do a few bumps to get through her speech. Jodie Sweetin is obviously a better actress than she gets credit for. ;-)

Finishing Jodie Sweetin’s book was bittersweet. She seems happy. She’s loving motherhood and she’s sober. But, she admits to relapsing during the time she wrote the book, and I was left with the uneasy feeling that she would relapse again. I haven’t read any recent articles about her, so I don’t know if she has recently relapsed (or, at least admitted to it), but lets hope she proves me wrong!

Happy Reading!

-Sara
